Caminhos para a independência is designed to help youth avoid the common pitfalls those with lived experience in the child welfare system often face by targeting young adults nearing their transition out of state-supported services. This program is designed for youth 18+ opened to DCF, who are their own vendors and in the Boston region to receive a variety of case management supports while they live independently, Incluindo:
- Housing navigation
- Educational and vocational support
- Linkage to mental health and substance use resources
- Development of a healthy and stable support network of peers and adults
Pathways participants will also have access to flex funding for emergency supports and immediate basic needs as a last resort to prevent youth from going into crisis, becoming homeless, or living in unsafe conditions. Flex funding can be approved for:
- Avoiding utility shut-offs
- Security deposits
- Emergency housing assistance
- Meeting transportation needs
