Communications Coordinator - Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth (Boston)
The Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth was founded in 1992 by Governor William Weld as the Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth, designed to respond to high suicide risk among gay and lesbian youth in the Commonwealth. We then transformed in 2006 into an independent state agency established under M.G.L. Chapter 3 Section 67. Today, we are the Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Questioning (LGBTQ)Youth, mandated to advise others in state government on effective policies, pwogram yo, and resources for LGBTQ youth. Our 50-member Commission and its staff issue annual recommendations, work in partnership with 18 state entities, and hold community events and listening sessions.
The Safe Schools Program for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning (LGBTQ) Students is a joint initiative between the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) and the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth. Founded in 1993 in response to concerns about LGBTQ youth suicides and other risk factors, the program now offers a range of services designed to help schools implement state laws impacting LGBTQ students, including the state’s anti-bullying law, gender identity law, and student anti-discrimination law.
Purpose
The Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth is seeking a Communications Coordinator to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy and work with members of the team to handle events, and community engagement. Messaging is to broadly contribute to the Commission’s mission to support the MA anti-bullying law. The Communications Coordinator will be a member of the ad hoc communications team and will work to increase the visibility of the Commission and its Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students and encourage public engagement. The successful applicant will be expected to:

- Support Program Coordinator with event planning, including the annual fundraising gala, recommendations release ceremony, and member retreat, while taking the lead on planning some events.
- Assist in drafting press releases
- Provide a comprehensive analysis of our social media platforms and their current reach using benchmarking and social media analytics to track outreach
- Identify and understand multiple target audiences
- Design and develop outreach materials, promotional products, and original social media content, including videos.
- Positively represent the Commission at community events and engage potential collaborators and members of the public with our work.
- Maintain and update outreach contact list of community organizations.
- Provide an analysis of our current resource page including which geographic regions are represented, what types of services and resources are included, what audiences are targeted, and what gaps exist. Reaching BIQTPOC (Black, Indigenous, queer, trans, people of color) audiences is a project priority
- Research existing resource pages maintained by other organizations (to avoid duplicating efforts)
- Research available resources to include on page
- Develop a plan that categorizes and organizes the information in an accessible, user-friendly format
- Develop a “FAQ” or “Know Your Rights” section of the site that allows students and educators to easily learn about the MA Anti-Discrimination Law and other relevant policies to LGBTQ+ students
- Meet with the Communications Team and the Leadership Team on a weekly basis
- Meet with Commission staff and Commission members for feedback, revisions, and final approval
- Safe Schools: Develop a plan to reach a wider audience of youth, their families, educators, with special attention to increasing participation of people of color, Black and Indigenous people, and people with disabilities
Commission: Develop a plan to amplify the work of the Commission on LGBTQ Youth and encourage engagement
- Develop platform-specific themes/campaigns for weekly postings
- Create platform-specific posts with text, graphics, and images
- Publish posts and share daily content that creates meaningful connections with community members

Community for People (C4P), as the fiscal agent for the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth, is seeking a full-time Training Coordinator to support the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, a joint initiative of the Commission and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). EOE.
The Training Coordinator plays a central role in delivering high-quality training, consultation, and implementation support to schools and educational organizations across Massachusetts. Working both remotely and in-person, the Training Coordinator will lead engaging professional development sessions, respond to technical assistance requests, and help strengthen the capacity of schools to support LGBTQ students, staff, and families—with a particular focus on those who face compounded barriers due to race, antrav, language, or other forms of marginalization.
This position is ideal for a skilled facilitator and equity-driven educator who is passionate about fostering inclusive, supportive, and affirming learning environments in K–12 schools.

Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate interactive, equity-centered training (virtual and in-person) for educators, school staff, students, fanmi yo, and community partners.
- Provide timely, responsive technical assistance to schools and districts through email, phone, and on-site consultation.
- Update and expand training materials and resources with a strong emphasis on complex identities, intersectionality, racial equity, and accessibility.
- Design and implement training assessments and evaluation tools to measure effectiveness and guide content development.
- Contribute to the growth and coordination of a network of contracted training consultants, supporting their engagement and development.
- Cultivate a sustainable model for youth and family speakers to enhance stakeholder engagement and elevate student, individual, and family voice.
- Track and respond to incoming training and technical assistance requests in collaboration with program staff; assist with consultant assignments as needed.
- Support documentation efforts, including contributions to the Program’s annual report and the tracking of training and technical assistance activities.
- Participate in weekly staff meetings, retreats, and planning sessions to support alignment and collaboration across the team.
- Travel to schools and training sites across Massachusetts as needed (access to a vehicle is required).
- Represent the Safe Schools Program at community events, Pride celebrations, education-focused conferences, and other stakeholder gatherings.
- Maintain availability for evening and weekend events, as needed.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of intersecting systems of oppression—particularly as they relate to race, gender, Oryantasyon seksyèl, and disability.
- Experience designing and facilitating training for diverse audiences, including educators, administrators, students, and families.
- Experience working with youth in school or community-based settings.
- Knowledge of inclusive, culturally responsive, and student-centered practices in education.
- Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to balance multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, and online platforms such as Google Forms or survey tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.
- Availability for evening and weekend events.
- Demonstrated commitment to LGBTQ youth, racial and gender justice, and educational equity.
- Work and lived experience are highly valued
Salary: $70,000 chak ane
